Fashion-Forward Glamping Looks for Trendy Girls

As a New Yorker (and still a New Yorker), camping was a rare adventure I had with my best friend’s family. Sleeping among deer and bugs was a big mental adjustment. Even now, pitching a tent in the woods isn’t my idea of a relaxing vacation. But with the rise of glamping in recent years, I’ve found the perfect balance between being in nature and having modern conveniences like a working toilet. Plus, glamping outfits cater to my fashionista side, so I can look polished and cute even when I’m about to get muddy. With fall in full swing, the idea of getting lost in the foliage and reconnecting with nature is super appealing.

I have several outdoor activities planned for fall, including a family trip to Redwood National Park. Since we’ll be glamping, I’m already thinking about the city-girl-meets-nature looks I’ll wear. First step? Consulting with Jodi Kahn, Neiman Marcus’s Senior Director of Women’s Designer Ready-to-Wear.

“Versatility in your clothing choices is key, so you’re prepared for unexpected activities or changes in weather,” Kahn says. “This could mean packing a nylon jacket, a denim jacket, or coordinating athleisure sets, along with a cute printed top and shorts you can lounge in.”

Kahn also says to pack “whatever you feel most comfortable in.” If your style is more cashmere cardigan than a water-resistant nylon anorak, pack it! For beauty enthusiasts don’t forget to pack your essential skincare products if you can – SPF and a brow pencil are must-haves in my glamping kit.

If your duffle bag or suitcase is getting too full, take a minute to review what you’ve packed. One item Kahn and I agree you should leave behind is heels. Ditch the 4-inch sandals and go for mud-friendly boots and sneakers. With that in mind, check out my dream glamping outfits below. I’ll be using these as inspiration for my fall adventures and I hope you do too!

Dress Mules

I wouldn’t recommend hiking in a dress, but once you get to your campsite and are settled in a dress with mules or clogs is a great outfit. This footwear style is comfortable and on-trend for summer 2024, so it’s a great choice for glamping.

Imagine wearing this look while making s’mores under the stars or taking a leisurely nap in the shade of a tree. A flowy dress provides the same level of comfort and mobility as sweats and a T-shirt but with the added bonus of looking more put together for those inevitable photos. Who doesn’t want to capture those beautiful moments in nature looking chic?

Dress Selection

When choosing a dress, leave your fancy silk slips and embellished floral frocks at home. Instead, opt for more casual, breathable cotton dresses that allow for ease of movement and comfort. Look for dresses with fun prints or solid colors that reflect your personal style but are practical for outdoor activities.

Maxi Dresses: A flowy maxi dress is a great choice. It provides coverage but is still airy and comfortable. The length adds a touch of sophistication, so it’s good for daytime and evening campfire gatherings.

Shirt Dresses: A shirt dress for a more tailored look. These dresses often have buttons and pockets, so they’re functional. You can dress them up or down depending on your accessories.

Wrap Dresses: A wrap dress is another versatile option that suits most body types. The adjustable fit is comfortable, and you can layer it with a light jacket if it gets cold.

Footwear

Mules and clogs are perfect for glamping because you can slip them on and off easily so they’re practical for getting in and out of your tent and outdoor activities. Here are a few styles:

Leather Mules: Go for leather mules for a more dressed-up look. They’re durable and can withstand the outdoors while looking chic. Choose a pair with a cushioned footbed for extra comfort.

Wooden Clogs: Wooden clogs have a rustic charm that pairs well with a dress. They’re supportive and great for walking around the campsite or nearby trails.

Slides: If you want something even more low key consider comfortable slides. They’re lightweight and packable, so they are an excellent glamping option.

Layering for Cold Evenings

For chilly evenings or unexpected temperature drops, layer a shearling leather bomber jacket over your dress. This adds warmth and a touch of rugged sophistication to your outfit. The combination of a soft dress and a structured bomber is a great glamping look.

Lightweight Cardigans: If a bomber feels too heavy, a lightweight cardigan can work, too. Look for one in a neutral color that matches your dress so you can layer without bulk.

Denim Jacket: A denim jacket is another layering option. It adds a casual touch to your outfit and goes with most dress styles.

Add Your Own Style

To make this outfit yours, add a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection during the day, and don’t forget your sunglasses. A crossbody bag is also a practical addition so you can carry your essentials close but not too bulky.

Jewelry: Keep your jewelry simple and functional. Go for stud earrings or a delicate necklace that won’t get in the way of outdoor activities. A few stacked bracelets add personality without being bulky.

Scarves: A lightweight scarf can be used as a headband, tied around your bag, or as a wrap if it gets cold. Choose a scarf with a fun print or color that matches your dress.

Sweater/Bottom Socks + Sandals

When glamping, especially if you know it will be cold at night and in the morning, you need to bring layers. A cozy sweater is a great layering piece that will keep you warm and comfortable as the temperature drops. Pair it with thick socks, and you’re good to go. You can style your favorite socks with clogs or sandals, depending on your personal style and comfort.

Choose Your Sweater

When choosing a sweater for your glamping trip:

Chunky Knit Sweaters: A chunky knit sweater will keep you warm and add a cozy touch to your outfit. Look for one in a neutral color that goes with most bottoms.

Cardigans: A long cardigan is a great layering option; you can layer it over different outfits. It’s easy to put on and off, so perfect for temperature fluctuations.

Hoodies: For a more relaxed look, a soft hoodie is a good option. It’s warm and comfortable, and you can just throw it over your outfit when it gets cold.

Bottoms

For bottoms, look for soft leggings or cotton drawstring styles that you can pull over your biker shorts if you get cold. Here are some options:

Leggings: Go for high-waisted leggings made from breathable material. They’re comfortable and flexible, so perfect for lounging around the campsite or light activities.

Cotton Drawstring Pants: These pants are for a relaxed fit and can be adjusted for comfort. Easy to wear and can be dressed up or down depending on your mood.

Joggers: Soft joggers are another option, sporty and stylish. You can pair them with different tops, and they are perfect for lounging and light outdoor activities.

Socks and Sandals

When it comes to footwear, you can pair your cozy outfit with socks and sandals. Here are some tips:

Socks with Clogs: If you prefer clogs, go for thicker, patterned socks that peek out from the top. This adds a fun touch to your outfit and keeps your feet warm.

Socks with Sandals: Wearing socks with sandals is a trend, especially in casual settings. Choose comfortable sandals with good support and pair them with colorful or fun socks to express yourself.

Color Inspiration

Notice how content creator Babba Rivera kept her outfit neutral, mainly black. This way, even if you get dirty during your outdoor activities, your outfit won’t look too messy. Neutral colors are not only versatile but also practical for outdoor settings, as they hide stains and dirt better than lighter colors.

Texture Mixing: While staying neutral, mix textures to add depth to your outfit. For example, a chunky knit sweater with sleek leggings looks good.

Accessorizing: To complete your cozy outfit, add a lightweight scarf or beanie for extra warmth. These can add a pop of color or pattern to your neutral outfit.

Jacket + Athletic Shorts

When you’re ready to leave your campsite and hit the trails, leave your dresses and clogs inside your tent or cabin. Instead, bundle up in a light jacket (if weather permits) and slip into athletic shorts that will keep you cool as you hike up that hill. This combination is all about comfort and function but also looks good while being outdoors.

Jacket Options

For your outdoor adventures, choose the right jacket. Here are some:

Lightweight Windbreaker: A lightweight windbreaker is perfect to keep the chill off without adding bulk. Look for one that’s breathable and packable so you can stash it in your backpack when the weather warms up.

Hooded Jacket: A hooded jacket can provide extra protection from unexpected rain or wind. Go for a jacket with adjustable features like drawstrings or elastic cuffs for a snug fit.

Fleece Jacket: If it’s going to be cold, a fleece jacket can provide warmth without being too heavy. Fleece is also moisture-wicking, so it’s a great choice for active activities.

Athletic Shorts

When it comes to athletic shorts, comfort and function are key. Here are some styles:

Moisture-Wicking Shorts: Look for shorts made from moisture-wicking fabric that will keep you dry and comfortable during your hike. These fabrics pull sweat away from your skin for better airflow.

Compression Shorts: If you like a tight fit, compression shorts can provide support and reduce muscle fatigue during your hike. You can wear them alone or layer them under loose shorts for extra comfort.

Printed or Colorful Options: To make your outfit Instagram-worthy, choose colorful anoraks or logo-printed bottoms. Fun patterns or bright colors can make your outfit pop in photos.

Trail Accessories

To complete your hiking outfit, add these accessories:

Good Shoes: Choose hiking shoes or trail runners that are supportive and have good grip. If you prefer sandals, choose ones designed for outdoor activities that are stable and comfortable.

Cap or Hat: A cap or wide-brim hat can protect you from the sun and add style to your outfit. Look for breathable materials so you stay cool during your hike.

Hydration Pack or Backpack: Staying hydrated is key during outdoor activities. A hydration pack or a lightweight backpack can carry your water and essentials so that you can hike hands-free.

Extras

Don’t forget to add your personal touch to your outfit. Whether it’s a favorite graphic tee under your jacket or a colorful scrunchie to tie your hair back, these little details can make your hiking outfit feel like you.

Matching Set

Matching sets are super versatile and can be worn anywhere, anytime, even while you’re camping. They’re a stylish and comfortable option that makes getting dressed easy. You can stick with your usual sweatshirt and shorts combo for a relaxed look or branch out and go for the long cardigan and pants look for a more polished one.

Matching Set Options

Sweatshirt and Shorts Combo: This is the classic combo for camping days. Choose a matching set in soft, breathable fabric that allows for ease of movement. Look for fun prints or colors that reflect your personality. This is perfect for lounging around the campsite, having a lazy breakfast, or taking a stroll in nature.

Long Cardigan and Pants: For a more polished look, go for a matching set with a long cardigan and tailored pants. This is not only stylish but practical, too, as it provides extra coverage from the elements. For example, Anna Sui’s striped co-ords can be worn while sipping your morning coffee by the lake or at night when you’re hanging out in the fire pit. The extra layer of the long cardigan will keep you warm as the temperature drops, making it perfect for cooler evenings.

Soft Cashmere Bralette and Shorts: For the true glampers who will be enjoying the indoor fireplace a soft Cashmere bralette with matching shorts is a great option. This luxurious combo is perfect for lounging indoors while still looking stylish. The cashmere fabric adds a touch of glamour, so it’s suitable for lounging and socializing with friends.

Benefits of Matching Sets

One of the best things about wearing a matching set while camping is the styling is easy. You don’t have to worry about coordinating different pieces. Everything is designed to go together. Matching sets can also make you look put together even in a casual setting, so they’re perfect for those Instagram moments.

Mosquitoes: As an added bonus to the long cardigan and pants look, you’ll be covered so mosquitoes can’t get to you. This is especially important during warmer months when they’re more active. Choose a lightweight, breathable fabric to keep you cool and that extra layer of protection.

Layering: Matching sets also layer well. If the weather is unpredictable, you can add a light jacket or a scarf to your outfit without sacrificing style. This versatility means you can adapt to changing conditions and still look cohesive.

Oversized Tee Colorful Biker Shorts

If you went to summer camp as a kid you’ll remember oversized tees and shorts were the uniform of the campers. This nostalgic combo is all about carefree adventure and comfort, so it’s perfect for glamping. To get that comfortable vibe as an adult and still look fashion-forward, go for a cool graphic print tee with colorful biker shorts.

Choosing the Right Oversized Tee

When choosing an oversized tee, look for one with a fun graphic or inspiring message. Here’s what to consider:

Graphic Prints: Go for tees with bold graphics, vintage logos, or artistic designs that reflect your personality. A good graphic can be a conversation starter and add a playful element to your outfit.

Comfortable Fabrics: Choose tees made from soft, breathable fabric like cotton or a cotton blend. This will keep you comfortable all day, whether you’re hiking, lounging, or enjoying a campfire.

Fit and Style: Oversized is key for this look as it’s relaxed and perfect for casual occasions. You can tuck the front of the tee into your biker shorts for a more polished look or leave it out for a more laid-back vibe.

Choosing Colorful Biker Shorts

Biker shorts are trendy and comfortable, so they’re perfect for outdoor adventures. Here’s how to choose the right ones:

Bright Colors: Don’t be afraid to wear optimistic colors while surrounded by nature. Bright colors like electric blue, sunny yellow, or vibrant pink can add a fun pop to your outfit and reflect the beauty of the outdoors.

Fun Patterns: Go for biker shorts with playful patterns like florals, tie-dye, or geometric designs. These will add to your overall look and make your outfit more interesting.

Functional Features: Look for biker shorts with pockets or moisture-wicking fabric for added functionality. Pockets can be handy for storing small items like your phone or keys while you’re out and about.

Styling Tips

To take your oversized tee and biker shorts to the next level, try:

Layering: If the weather is unpredictable, throw on a light jacket or denim vest over your tee. This adds an extra layer of warmth and style without sacrificing comfort.

Footwear: Choose comfortable footwear that matches your outfit. Sneakers or sporty sandals are good for outdoor activities, and slip-on shoes are perfect for lounging around the campsite.

Accessories: Throw on a bucket hat or baseball cap for sun protection and a bit of style. And don’t forget sunglasses.
